Bishop Gorman's American Legion baseball team blew a six-run lead Saturday in its second World Series game, but Jeff Malm hit an eventual game-winning home run in the sixth inning and pitched two scoreless innings to close the game in a 10-8 victory against Pasco, Wash.
The victory, Gorman's 18th straight, keeps them in the winner's bracket of the double-elimination event in Shelby, N.C., three wins away from capturing the title.
Gorman (72-7-1) scored six runs in the second inning for a 7-1 lead, but Pasco plated three runs in the fifth and sixth to even the score. Malm hit a solo home run in Gorman's half of the sixth and Corey Lafler gave Gorman an insurance run with a RBI single in the eighth.
Jeff Malm, who played with the United States 18-and-under team this summer, had two hits and three runs. He also scored three runs and recorded the save Friday in Gorman's 7-5 victory against Omaha, Neb., to open the series.
Matt Hall and Paul Sewald had run-scoring singles in the six-run second inning as Gorman strung together six hits and took advantage of two errors to build a 7-1 lead.
Johnny Field, Joey Rickard and Lafler had two hits each for Gorman.
