Las Vegas stars in Nike hoops TV ad

Thu, Aug 28, 2008 (9:18 p.m.)

Have you seen the Las Vegas influence on the latest Nike “Just Do It” TV ads celebrating the U.S. winning the basketball gold medal in China?

Anything look familiar?

That’s right, all of the footage was filmed in practice in Las Vegas, at Cox Pavilion during a weekend reunion of the team at Valley High during its pre-Olympic, weeklong training camp.

Then Team USA departed for China, winning two exhibition games in Macau and then two more in Shanghai.

Then the Olympics, where the U.S. won each of its eight games by double digits. It belted Spain in a sterling gold-medal game in which the Spaniards were depleted and hobbled, but still gave the Americans a test.

Did you see the sheer joy that Kobe Bryant, Dwyane Wade, LeBron James and the rest of the crew had in accepting their gold medals?

And then hanging each and every one of them around the neck of coach Mike Krzyzewski?

All that started in Las Vegas, where Team USA called home for the past three summers.

That’s what you see in the Nike ad. NBC owns all of the rights to game coverage -- thus, practice footage from Cox and Valley.

Priceless, for Las Vegas.
