CSN baseball wins 15th in a row to claim conference crown

The College of Southern Nevada swept a four-game series against Southern Idaho this weekend to win the regular season of the Scenic West Athletic Conference.

With the title, the Coyotes get to play host to the conference tournament that starts Wednesday. They’ll get a first-round bye and begin play Thursday at Morse Field in Henderson.

CSN (41-14, 30-10 in league) capped the sweep with 7-0 and 6-0 victories in a Saturday doubleheader in Twin Falls, Idaho. Moreover, the Coyotes finished the regular season by winning their final 15 games. CSI is 30-26 and 21-19.

“Unbelievable,” said Coyotes coach Tim Chambers as he boarded a bus for the nine-hour bus ride back to Henderson.

Western Nevada had started the weekend a game behind CSN in the SWAC, and the Wildcats won both games of a Friday doubleheader against Eastern Utah in Carson City.

CSN then made Western Nevada’s Saturday outcomes moot by shutting out CSI twice. Chambers last heard that the Wildcats (33-20, 27-11 to start the day) were in extra innings against Eastern Utah in their first game Saturday.

Chambers led CSN to an NJCAA World Series championship in 2003.

“I’m in shock,” he said. “The guys just got on the bus. No celebrating. This club has bigger places to go.”
