Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman has become an enthusiastic Las Vegas Wranglers fan and has made a bet for the Ohio River with his Cincinnati counterpart.
No word yet from Cincinnati Mayor Mark Mallory on whether he’d wager the river for Fremont Street and all of its attractions.
Of course, the river-for-the-street bet is tongue-in-cheek. Mayors typically wager something that reflects their cities in championship series.
Goodman has suggested that he’d wear a Cyclones jersey at a City Council meeting if they defeat the Wranglers, so Mallory wearing a Wranglers jersey likely will be the bet.
Maybe Mallory could wager a big bowl of Cincinnati chili – a heap of cheese-covered chili over spaghetti noodles – against a big bottle of Bombay Sapphire?
Goodman, “the martini mayor,” once told a group of grade-schoolers that he’d want a bottle of gin on a deserted island. He has even had a $100,000 deal as a spokesman for Bombay Sapphire.

Las Vegas and Cincinnati begin the best-of-seven ECHL Kelly Cup Finals on Saturday in the Queen City, and Game 2 will be played Sunday night.
The series shifts to the Orleans Arena for Games 3 and 4 – and, if necessary, Game 5 – on May 29 and 30, and June 2, respectively.
The Wranglers encourage fans to wear red for their “Red Sea in Game 3” promotion for the Thursday, May 29 game in Las Vegas.
About 60 fans cheered late Thursday morning as coach Glen Gulutzan, twins Peter and Chris Ferraro, Curtis Fraser, Marco Peluso and the rest of the team left the Orleans Arena, walked on a roped-off red carpet and boarded a charter bus to take them to their flight at McCarran International Airport.
