Big night all around as Wranglers tie title series, 2-2, with Cincy

Fri, May 30, 2008 (11:05 p.m.)

Before a sensational sell-out crowd at the Orleans Arena, the Wranglers had one of their best playoff performances when they needed it most.

Las Vegas belted Cincinnati, 2-0, to tie the best-of-seven ECHL Kelly Cup Finals at two games apiece.

Game 5 is Monday at 7:05 p.m. in Las Vegas, then the championship series shifts back to the U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati for Game 6 on Thursday night. If needed, Game 7 will be played in Cincinnati next Saturday.

A sellout crowd of 7,703 on Friday provided the most electric atmosphere for a Wranglers game in the five-year history of the franchise.

It also marked the return of veteran right wing Chris Ferraro to the Wranglers’ No. 1 line.

Ferraro hadn’t played since he was blind-sided by Robin Gomez in a game at Victoria, British Columbia, on March 1. Ferraro’s head hit the ice hard, and he had multiple setbacks from the concussion.

He will likely see Gomez, who was arrested and formally charged with assault, for the first time since the incident in court in the middle of July.

Against the Cyclones, Chris Ferraro, identical twin brother of Las Vegas wing Peter Ferraro, played with abandon, not shying away from giving out or receiving hard hits.

Chris Ferraro also took most of the face-offs for the Wranglers.

Las Vegas got first- and second-period goals, respectively, from forwards Aki Seitsonen and Kelly Czuy.

Rookie goalie Kevin Lalande stoned all 27 shots the Cyclones fired at him for his second shutout of the title series and third of his career.
