Former 51s starter Brad Mills was a bit shaky in his major league debut, while fellow call-up Jeremy Accardo picked up his first major league save of the 2009 season as Toronto completed a sweep of Philadelphia on Thursday afternoon, 8-7, in interleague play.
The 24-year-old Mills, who was 1-8 with a 4.48 ERA in 13 starts with Las Vegas before his promotion to the bigs, lasted just 3.2 innings, allowing 4 earned runs on 6 hits and 4 walks. He struck out 2.
But a Rod Barajas home run in the top of the ninth set the stage for Accardo, who took the place of closer Scott Downs. Downs was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Wednesday.
Accardo, who saved 30 games for the Blue Jays in 2007, allowed just one hit while pitching two-thirds of an inning to secure Toronto's 37th victory of the season.
Accardo saved 9 games for the 51s before his call-up, carrying a 3.38 ERA in the process with 22 strikeouts in 24 innings pitched.
