No NFL team that has started the season 0-3 has ever made the Super Bowl, let alone won it. Only five such teams ended up making the postseason since 1990 when the NFL implemented its current 12-team playoff system.
The Kansas City Chiefs are 0-3 this season. The Chiefs' three opponents have outscored them by a league-worst 82 points. Kansas City also lost arguably its best offensive and defensive players, running back Jamaal Charles and safety Eric Berry, with season-ending torn ACLs.
None of this dissuaded one brave bettor at a Lucky’s sports book from wagering $400 on Kansas City to win the Super Bowl, according to a company official. The payout? $200,000.
For the math-challenged, that means the gambler received 500-to-1 odds on the future wager. That’s the highest in the league by far — only one other team is more than 250-to-1 — and 10 times what the Chiefs opened at this season.
The team with the second-worst future odds at Lucky’s, the 0-3 Minnesota Vikings who are listed at 300-to-1, visits Kansas City Sunday in a matchup that seriously threatens to feature horrifyingly bad football.
Oddsmakers are so unimpressed with Kansas City’s early season efforts that it’s a 1.5-point underdog to the listless Vikings at home. Tickets to the can-miss affair are going for as low as $27 on StubHub, or 14 times less than the ticket that presumably forced the Lucky’s teller into a fit of laughter.
