Vegas Play of the Day: Arizona at Chicago White Sox

Sun, May 11, 2014 (2 a.m.)

Here’s the latest installment of the Play of the Day, which uses odds from the South Point. Our three sports writers started with a $10,000 bankroll — fictional, of course.

Chicago White Sox (-105) vs. Arizona Diamondbacks, $525 to win $500: I must not be thinking straight. Chicago starter Hector Noesi sports an 8.27 ERA, but I’m still betting the White Sox in what could be considered a poor wager. It’s a risk I’m willing to take.

Noesi gave up just one run in his most recent start, striking out six batters in five innings. Hopefully it’s a sign of things to come.

But this bet isn’t about Chicago. It’s about the lowly Arizona Diamondbacks, which are one of baseball’s worst teams with a 14-25 record.

It’s gotten so bad that Chase Anderson, today’s starter, was recently promoted from Double-A. While he was solid in Mobile, Ala., the hitters will be more advanced today.

Here’s hoping my streak of winners continues. I’m going for a fourth straight win in this column.

Standings: Bern (23-16-1, $11,500), Brewer (17-20-3, $7,595), Keefer (19-25, $7,528)
