The fifth season of the annual Play of the Day betting competition between the Sun's sports staff is now under way, effective July 1.

Bankrolls start at $10,000 for each of the four participants, with the objective to increase it as much as possible over the next year. The minimum daily wager is $300, with a $200 penalty assessed for failing to place a bet on an assigned day.

Past winners are Case Keefer in 2017-2018, Ray Brewer in 2016-2017 and 2015-2016, and Taylor Bern in 2014-2015.

Oklahoma minus-8 vs. Texas: $990 to win $900

The combination of my fall in the Play of the Day over the last month and Brewer’s sudden surge means there’s pressure to keep pace. Luckily, there’s a game worth a max-bet on the docket on conference championship Saturday.

Oklahoma should be laying double digits to Texas.

Yes, the Longhorns beat them once earlier this year but we’ve been through this. The score wasn’t indicative of the overall action.

It also took Texas’ best effort, and it’s hard to imagine them keeping up with Oklahoma again. The Sooners are nothing short of historically efficient on offense, and with a College Football Playoff berth at stake, it’s unlikely they’ll have a letdown or play below standards. Tom Herman may have Texas on track to one day surpass Oklahoma.

That day is not today; the Sooners will win the Big 12 championship by at least 10 points.

Current Standings: Brewer (11-11-1, $9,900), Keefer (18-16-2, $8,936), Emerson (0-0, $8,425), Grimala (11-10-1, $6,305)

Case Keefer can be reached at 702-948-2790 or [email protected]. Follow Case on Twitter at twitter.com/casekeefer.
