The fifth season of the annual Play of the Day betting competition between the Sun's sports staff is now under way, effective July 1.

Bankrolls start at $10,000 for each of the four participants, with the objective to increase it as much as possible over the next year. The minimum daily wager is $300, with a $200 penalty assessed for failing to place a bet on an assigned day.

Past winners are Case Keefer in 2017-2018, Ray Brewer in 2016-2017 and 2015-2016, and Taylor Bern in 2014-2015.

Jacksonville Jaguars plus-5 at Tennessee Titans: $880 to win $800

Confession: I’m a little flabbergasted at this line movement. The Jaguars are up to a 5.5-point underdog in some spots, which begs one question: Has anyone watched the Titans’ offense this season?

As they may say in Nashville, it ain’t pretty. Tennessee is in the bottom quarter of the NFL in offense by any efficiency metric.

The Titans’ problems should be compounded against a strong defense. And, yes, despite Jacksonville’s season going off the rails long ago, it still has a strong defense.

The Jaguars are fourth in the NFL in giving up only 5.2 yards per play. The Titans are fifth-to-last in the NFL in gaining 5.2 yards per play.

Yes, Cody Kessler is a downgrade from the benched Blake Bortles — it felt weird typing “downgrade” and “Bortles” in the same sequence — but not enough to account for this large of a point spread.

When these two teams played in September, the Jaguars were 10-point favorites. They lost, but only 9-6.

If they lose tonight, it’s probably going to be the same type of game — a low-scoring snoozer. Points are even more valuable in low-scoring snoozers.

Current Standings: Keefer (18-17-2, $9,836), Brewer (11-12-1, $9,060) Emerson (0-0, $8,425), Grimala (11-11-1, $5,205)
