The fifth season of the annual Play of the Day betting competition between the Sun's sports staff is now under way, effective July 1.

Bankrolls start at $10,000 for each of the four participants, with the objective to increase it as much as possible over the next year. The minimum daily wager is $300, with a $200 penalty assessed for failing to place a bet on an assigned day.

Past winners are Case Keefer in 2017-2018, Ray Brewer in 2016-2017 and 2015-2016, and Taylor Bern in 2014-2015.

Suns vs. Clippers under 221: $300 to win $273

I'm making my debut here so I'm going to go with my hometown Suns, and their inability to score.

Phoenix has held the opposition to less than 100 points just twice this season, and the Clippers hung 115 on it the last time the two teams played. That means the Suns would need to score 105 points or fewer to lock in the under if they allow that many to the Clippers again, and the Suns have done that in each of their last seven games.

Playing without Devin Booker has zapped Phoenix of all its scoring touch. He has missed the last three gamed and the offense has scored 105, 86 and 98 points without him. Deandre Ayton will be back in the starting

The Clippers have been held to fewer than 100 points in their last two games, including to 98 by the Miami Heat at home on Saturday. Two teams having trouble making buckets right now makes for a prime bet on the under.

Current Standings: Keefer, (19-17-2, $9,256), Brewer (11-12-1, $9,060), Emerson (0-0, $8,425), Grimala (11-11-1, $5,205)
