The fifth season of the annual Play of the Day betting competition between the Sun’s sports staff is now under way, effective July 1.

Bankrolls start at $10,000 for each of the four participants, with the objective to increase it as much as possible over the next year. The minimum daily wager is $300, with a $200 penalty assessed for failing to place a bet on an assigned day.

Past winners are Case Keefer in 2017-2018, Ray Brewer in 2016-2017 and 2015-2016, and Taylor Bern in 2014-2015.

Raiders plus-3 vs. Broncos, $440 to win $400: This is likely the Raiders last game in Oakland as the franchise begins its move to Las Vegas for the 2020 season. It’s never a good idea to use emotion as the sole reason for betting on a team, but this is the exception. The Raiders’ players will be motivated to win to give the fans a fitting farewell.

Jon Gruden’s first season back with Oakland hasn’t be a winning one, as it’s become obvious they are playing for 2020. Whether it’s trading key players or firing top executives, the Raiders’ are working toward Las Vegas, and not the current season.

But Denver is just as bad, and its coach is expected to be let go at the end of the season. Denver won 20-19 earlier in the season. Expect another close result.

Current Standings: Brewer (13-12-1, $10,060), Keefer (19-19-2, $8,296), Emerson (1-2, $7,589), Grimala (11-12-1, $4,345)
