Vegas Play of the Day: Braves at Marlins

Thu, May 10, 2018 (1:59 p.m.)

We’ve entered the fourth season of the annual South Point-lined Play of the Day competition, effective July 1.

Starting bankrolls have reset to $10,000, with the maximum bet being to win $1,000 and the minimum wager $300. A participant's failure to place a bet on their scheduled day results in a $200 bankroll penalty.

Ray Brewer won back-to-back titles in the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons, after Taylor Bern prevailed in 2014-15.

Atlanta Braves minus-110 at Miami Marlins: $990 to win $900: The Marlins, who are one of baseball’s worst teams, return home to South Florida to face the National League East leading Braves. I never wager on a team in its first game home from a road trip, figuring players are more focused with reuniting with family than the following day’s game.

While there is no stat to support the claim, there is plenty of data to indicate wagering on Atlanta. The Braves rank fourth in baseball in runs scored and second in batting average. Their slugging percentage and on-base percentage also rank in the top five.

The Marlins, on the other hand, rank near the bottom of every statistical category, both offense and defense.

Current Standings: Keefer (33-27-1, $11,316), Granger (17-16, $10,059), Brewer (25-27-1, $5,370), Grimala (14-21, $4,565)
