Vegas Play of the Day: Baltimore at Tampa Bay

Sat, May 26, 2018 (10:22 a.m.)

We’ve entered the fourth season of the annual South Point-lined Play of the Day competition, effective July 1.

Starting bankrolls have reset to $10,000, with the maximum bet being to win $1,000 and the minimum wager $300. A participant's failure to place a bet on their scheduled day results in a $200 bankroll penalty.

Ray Brewer won back-to-back titles in the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons, after Taylor Bern prevailed in 2014-15.

Baltimore plus-130 at Tampa Bay Rays: $600 to win $780: Tampa Bay traded away two of its best players on Friday and already appears to be playing for next season. Usually teams don’t begin subtracting from their roster until after Memorial Day — a benchmark in the season when teams determine if they are playing for this year or next.

Fittingly, Tampa Bay failed to score last night hours after the trade.

Ryne Stanek will make a spot start today for the Rays, who once or twice a week have a game where only relief pitchers are used. It’s not sustainable use four or five relievers in an outing, a lesson Tampa will again learn the hard way tonight.

As an added bonus, Baltimore is plus-money on the betting board. Sure, Baltimore starter Andrew Cashner is nothing to write home about. And, sure, Baltimore has struggled this year. But Tampa is even worse.

Current Standings: Keefer (33-27-1, $10,916), Granger (17-16, $9,459), Grimala (16-21, $6,565), Brewer (26-28-1, $5,470)
