The fifth season of the annual Play of the Day betting competition between the Sun’s sports staff is now under way, effective July 1.
Bankrolls start at $10,000 for each of the four participants, with the objective to increase it as much as possible over the next year. The minimum daily wager is $300, with a $200 penalty assessed for failing to place a bet on an assigned day.
Past winners are Case Keefer in 2017-18, Ray Brewer in 2016-17 and 2015-16, and Taylor Bern in 2014-15.
Oklahoma at West Virginia, Total Over 83, $990 to win $900: It is never ideal going into a football game needing 12 touchdowns to cover a points-total wager. But Oklahoma has scored 50 or more points in six of its last seven games and West Virginia isn’t far behind in averaging 40 points per game.
Between West Virginia’s Will Grier and Oklahoma’s Kyler Murray, the game will feature two of college football’s best quarterbacks. Don’t be surprised if each throws for at least five touchdowns and the score mirrors last year’s result, 59-31 in favor of Oklahoma.
If Oklahoma surrendered 40 points last week to Kansas, imagine how many West Virginia can score. The final could creep into triple digits.
