Vegas Play of the Day: Indiana basketball at Duke

Tue, Nov 27, 2018 (9:32 a.m.)

The fifth season of the annual Play of the Day betting competition between the Sun’s sports staff is now under way, effective July 1.

Bankrolls start at $10,000 for each of the four participants, with the objective to increase it as much as possible over the next year. The minimum daily wager is $300, with a $200 penalty assessed for failing to place a bet on an assigned day.

Past winners are Case Keefer in 2017-2018, Ray Brewer in 2016-2017 and 2015-2016, and Taylor Bern in 2014-2015.

Indiana at Duke, Total Over 157.5, $990 to win $900: Duke has scored more than 90 points in three of its six games. It has scored more than 80 points in two more contests to average 91 points per game.

Yet, the total is relatively low because Indiana only allows 60.3 points per game, which ranks 25th nationally out of more than 300 teams. Indiana, of course, hasn’t played an opponent up to Duke’s caliber. And Duke will be slightly more motivated for a good showing because it was upset by Gonzaga in its most recent game.

Indiana, which averages 84 points per game, will be able to score with Duke. If the Hoosiers can keep the game close, it will easily fly over the points total. If Duke blows out Indiana, it will take the air out of the ball and over bettors will be in trouble.

Current Standings: Brewer (10-11-1, $9,000), Keefer (18-16-2, $8,936), Grimala (11-10-1, $6,505)
