Vegas Play of the Day: Arizona Diamondbacks at Colorado Rockies

Wed, Sep 12, 2018 (3:42 p.m.)

The fifth season of the annual Play of the Day betting competition between the Sun's sports staff is now under way, effective July 1.

Bankrolls start at $10,000 for each of the four participants, with the objective to increase it as much as possible over the next year. The minimum daily wager is $300, with a $200 penalty assessed for failing to place a bet on an assigned day.

Past winners are Case Keefer in 2017-2018, Ray Brewer in 2016-2017 and 2015-2016, and Taylor Bern in 2014-2015.

Arizona Diamondbacks minus-109 at Colorado Rockies: $327 to win $300

It feels like cruel and unusual punishment to have to wager on baseball in Play of the Day when football is still this fresh and new — even when it comes to a game loaded with playoff implications like this one.

So this may be some rudimentary handicapping, but this game comes down to two very simple factors to me. I’m getting both the better team and the better pitcher at practically a pick’em price.

Can’t beat that. Arizona’s prices still look a little deflated due to its recent downturn but it seemed to regroup Tuesday in beating Colorado 6-3.

With Patrick Corbin on the mound tonight, the Diamondbacks should continue to get it together.

Current Standings: Keefer (10-5, $11,418), Grimala (7-3, $10,700), Granger (4-3, $9,225), Brewer (4-7, $7,400)
