The sixth season of the annual Play of the Day betting competition between the Sun's sports staff is now underway, effective July 1.

Bankrolls start at $10,000 for each of the four participants, with the objective to increase it as much as possible over the next year. The minimum daily wager is $300, with a $200 penalty assessed for failing to place a bet on an assigned day.

Past winners are Case Keefer in 2018-19 and 2017-2018, Ray Brewer in 2016-2017 and 2015-2016, and Taylor Bern in 2014-2015.

Utah minus-7 vs. Texas: $550 to win $500

The more I think about this game, the more I like the Utes. It's also kind of getting the Play of the Day distinction by default, as the lines on the rest of today's bowl game have moved away from me since writing Monday's column.

I think the market as a whole is forgetting just how great Utah was all season. The Utes steamrolled almost everything in their way — minus Oregon and USC — and posted a plus-270 point differential.

An 11-2 overall record doesn't fully illustrate their level of play. If anything, Texas' 7-5 record overvalues their efficiency.

The Longhorns spent most of the season looking like a .500 team behind a truly dreadful defense. Utah quarterback Tyler Huntley should put up huge numbers in San Antonio today.

Texas' offense is capable of keeping up, but it isn't used to seeing defenses as stout as Utah's. The Utes are fourth in the nation in giving up 4.4 yards per play — a better mark than any team Texas has faced.

This might turn into an easy win for Utah.

Current Standings: Grimala (11-5, $9,365), Keefer (21-19-2, $7,625), Emerson (11-15, $7,090), Brewer (9-10, $6,045)
