Vegas Play of the Day: Timberwolves vs. Warriors

Fri, Nov 8, 2019 (10:21 a.m.)

The sixth season of the annual Play of the Day betting competition between the Sun's sports staff is now underway, effective July 1.

Bankrolls start at $10,000 for each of the four participants, with the objective to increase it as much as possible over the next year. The minimum daily wager is $300, with a $200 penalty assessed for failing to place a bet on an assigned day.

Past winners are Case Keefer in 2018-19 and 2017-2018, Ray Brewer in 2016-2017 and 2015-2016, and Taylor Bern in 2014-2015.

Minnesota Timberwolves minus-11.5 vs. Golden State Warriors: $330 to win $300

So the Warriors are bad now? That happened quick. Moreover, the Timberwolves might be good?

Golden State's decline happened rapidly, and it was steep. The Warriors are 2-6 with a minus-9.7 point differential that is second-worst in the league. Their only road win came in New Orleans, against the only team in the West with a worse record than the Warriors.

It's hard to trust the Warriors to even cover, much less win. Steph Curry and Klay Thompson are hurt, Kevin Durant is gone, and the Roman dynasty may not have been been built in a day, but basketball's best this decade sure seemed to evaporate in one. Even a few weeks ago, I would have laughed at Minnesota beating Golden State by 11.5, but now I'm confident in it.

Current Standings: Grimala (10-3, $11,545), Keefer (17-12-1, $9,945), Emerson (8-10, $8,290), Brewer (7-9, $7,375)
