The sixth season of the annual Play of the Day betting competition between the Sun's sports staff is now underway, effective July 1.

Bankrolls start at $10,000 for each of the four participants, with the objective to increase it as much as possible over the next year. The minimum daily wager is $300, with a $200 penalty assessed for failing to place a bet on an assigned day.

Past winners are Case Keefer in 2018-19 and 2017-2018, Ray Brewer in 2016-2017 and 2015-2016, and Taylor Bern in 2014-2015.

Week 1 is upon us, and if there's one thing we know about the NFL it's that every season is an entirely new entity. The Bears' breakout 2018 campaign means nothing now, as does Green Bay's underwhelming slog of a season (which ended with longtime head coach Mike McCarthy's firing). The track records have been wiped clean and both teams are starting anew.

That uncertainty makes me want to invest in the quarterback that I trust more. In this case, Aaron Rodgers is light years ahead of Mitch Trubisky, so that's where I'm putting my money.

We don't know how good either of these teams are going to be yet, but I know Rodgers is the much better QB. If this game comes down to the final quarter, I like his odds of making the plays — even on the road — to deliver a Green Bay victory.

Current Standings: Grimala (5-2, $11,065), Emerson (4-6, $8,440), Brewer (2-8, $5,575), Keefer (3-6, $5,325).
