The sixth season of the annual Play of the Day betting competition between the Sun's sports staff is now underway, effective July 1.
Bankrolls start at $10,000 for each of the four participants, with the objective to increase it as much as possible over the next year. The minimum daily wager is $300, with a $200 penalty assessed for failing to place a bet on an assigned day.
Past winners are Case Keefer in 2018-19 and 2017-2018, Ray Brewer in 2016-2017 and 2015-2016, and Taylor Bern in 2014-2015.
Atlanta Hawks plus-10 at Boston Celtics: $330 to win $300
With leading scorer Kemba Walker out today (flu), the Celtics will likely give more playing time to spray-shooter Marcus Smart at point guard. That lowers Boston's offensive ceiling and should allow Atlanta to keep within single digits, especially if Trae Young has a good game. And considering the Celtics' difficulties defending the 3-point line this season, Young should get some good looks. The Hawks will lose, but cover late in the fourth quarter.
Current Standings: Grimala (11-5, $9,365), Keefer (22-20-2, $7,575), Emerson (11-16, $6,650), Brewer (9-10, $6,045)
