The sixth season of the annual Play of the Day betting competition between the Sun's sports staff is now under way, effective July 1.

Bankrolls start at $10,000 for each of the four participants, with the objective to increase it as much as possible over the next year. The minimum daily wager is $300, with a $200 penalty assessed for failing to place a bet on an assigned day.

Past winners are Case Keefer in 2018-19 and 2017-2018, Ray Brewer in 2016-2017 and 2015-2016, and Taylor Bern in 2014-2015.

Eagles plus-2 vs. Seahawks, $550 to win $500: Seattle, down to its fourth-string tailback, won’t be able to run the ball against the Eagles. Sure, the Seahawks brought Marshawn Lynch out of retirement to help the offense, but Lynch lacks conditioning and is not capable of holding up an entire game.

Yes, the Eagles are also without key offensive players, namely No. 1 tight end Zach Ertz (bruised ribs) and most of their regular receivers.

But they have won three straight games to make the playoffs, using performances of younger players to lead the charge. Dallas Goebert, for instance, has been more than serviceable in the place of Ertz, catching four passes for 65 yards last week. Two weeks ago, in the division championship game against Dallas, he had nine grabs for 91 yards and a touchdown.

Seattle beat Philly 17-9 on Nov. 24, but only because the Eagles had five turnovers. They game was essentially even the rest of the way. A similar script is expected in the playoffs, meaning Eagles’ backers will definitely take plus-points with the home team.

Current Standings: Grimala (12-5, $9,465), Keefer (22-20-2, $7,575), Emerson (11-16, $6,650), Brewer (10-10, $6,545)
