The sixth season of the annual Play of the Day betting competition between the Sun's sports staff is now underway, effective July 1.
Bankrolls start at $10,000 for each of the four participants, with the objective to increase it as much as possible over the next year. The minimum daily wager is $300, with a $200 penalty assessed for failing to place a bet on an assigned day.
Past winners are Case Keefer in 2018-19 and 2017-2018, Ray Brewer in 2016-2017 and 2015-2016, and Taylor Bern in 2014-2015.
Dallas Mavericks minus-2.5 vs. Denver Nuggets: $440 to win $400
Let's not forget how great the Mavericks have been. That looks like what might be happening here with a short line that's diminishing further against the Nuggets.
The Mavericks are going to be without Kristaps Porzingis tonight, which means something, considering he's their second-best player. But he also hasn't been very key in their success. It's been the Luka Doncic show and should be again tonight against a fade-able Nuggets team.
Denver is solid for the second straight year, but it isn't quite as good as its second-place standing in the Western Conference indicates. The Nuggets only have a four point per game scoring differential, more than three points below the Mavericks.
Stock is down on Dallas after it has lost two of its last four, but it now might be a time worth buying low.
