The sixth season of the annual Play of the Day betting competition between the Sun's sports staff is now under way, effective July 1.

Bankrolls start at $10,000 for each of the four participants, with the objective to increase it as much as possible over the next year. The minimum daily wager is $300, with a $200 penalty assessed for failing to place a bet on an assigned day.

Past winners are Case Keefer in 2018-19 and 2017-2018, Ray Brewer in 2016-2017 and 2015-2016, and Taylor Bern in 2014-2015.

Golden State Warriors plus-4 vs. Orlando Magic, $550 to win $500: How the mighty have fallen. Golden State has a 9-33 record this season and enter tonight’s game with visiting Orlando on a nine-game losing streak. So, yes, they won’t be making a sixth straight NBA Finals appearance, especially with star Stephen Curry still recovering from injury.

But they will keep the game close against Orlando, which will be playing its fifth game in a long road trip out west. Traveling cross-country for a game, everything from dealing with the time change to the unfamiliar settings of being away from home, give problems to many teams in all sports. Add to the fact that home teams typically fare better on Saturday nights, and that’s plenty of ammunition to make a small wager on Golden State.

Plus, for as bad as the Warriors have played, they are still averaging 105 points per game. That’s two more points per game than Orlando, whose offense ranks 29th out of 30 NBA teams. The Magic also have a 7-14 road record. They won’t be blowing out Golden State.

Current Standings: Grimala (13-5, $9,465), Keefer (22-22-2, $5,835), Emerson (11-16, $6,050), Brewer (10-11, $5,595)
