Vegas Play of the Day: Raptors at Suns

Tue, Mar 3, 2020 (1:03 p.m.)

The sixth season of the annual Play of the Day betting competition between the Sun's sports staff is now underway, effective July 1.

Bankrolls start at $10,000 for each of the four participants, with the objective to increase it as much as possible over the next year. The minimum daily wager is $300, with a $200 penalty assessed for failing to place a bet on an assigned day.

Past winners are Case Keefer in 2018-19 and 2017-2018, Ray Brewer in 2016-2017 and 2015-2016, and Taylor Bern in 2014-2015.

Toronto Raptors minus-4.5 at Phoenix Suns: $660 to win $600

I am from Phoenix and have never felt more comfortable betting against the Suns.

I know the Raptors have lost three in a row. I know they're in the second game of a five-game Western Conference swing. I know they're not as intimidating as the team that won it all last season.

But have you considered how bad the Suns are? Things were looking up at the beginning of the year when it looked like they might be competitive and vie for a playoff spot. They have also lost three in a row, the last two of which came to the Pistons and Warriors, and their most recent game was a 16-point loss to the last-in-the-West Warriors.

The Raptors would get plenty of money coming to their side if they were 10-point favorites. At 4.5, it's an easy bet.

Current Standings: Grimala (14-5, $8,665), Keefer (28-26-2, $8,275), Brewer (14-12, $6,805), Emerson (13-16, $5,550)
