Nevada poised for third congressional seat

A new study shows that Nevada is likely to add a third congressional seat after the 2000 census.

Election Data Services Inc. of Washington, D.C., says if the state's current rate of population growth continues, Nevada will be in line for its third representative.

Nevada is the fastest-growing state in the nation, doubling in population, from 800,000 in 1980 to the current figure of 1.6 million.

Researchers say the new district would be in Southern Nevada, with Clark County now accounting for 65 percent of the state's residents.
