FORT ORD, Calif. -- The second-ranked UNLV golf team shot an 8-under-par 280 en route to a 20-shot lead Monday after two rounds of the Big West Conference tournament.

The Rebels (280-299--579) lead runner-up San Jose State by 20 shots and defending champion New Mexico State by 23.

Rebel junior Mike Ruiz leads the individual competition with a 68-72--140. UNLV has four of the top-10 golfers after two rounds: senior Chris Riley is tied for third, six shots back; freshman Ted Oh is fifth, seven strokes behind; and senior Chad Campbell is tied for sixth, eight shots off the pace.

"We had an excellent first round on a hard golf course," UNLV head coach Dwaine Knight said.

The final 18 holes are scheduled for today as UNLV seeks its fourth Big West title in five years.
