SUN STAFF REPORTS

An arrest warrant has been issued for the second of two suspects named in the brutal murder of a Las Vegas woman and her grandson who were asleep at the time in their beds.

Mario Mach-ado, 21, is named in the warrant that charges him with murder with use of a deadly weapon, conspiracy to commit burglary and robbery, and three counts of possessing a stolen vehicle.

Metro Police believe Machado, a Mexican national, may have fled to Mexico.

Investigators claim that Machado was among a group of men seen drinking near the victims' home on Palo Verde Road, near Tropicana Avenue and Paradise Road, just after midnight Sept. 14, and left with another man to rob residents in the area.

Witnesses reported seeing two men with blood on them coming out of an apartment where the victims, who police identified as Kathleen Flynn, 60, and her grandson, Joshua Brarrigan, 11, were later found stabbed to death.

Police recovered six blood-stained cars, which homicide Sgt. Bill Keeton said the assailants stole after leaving the murder scene.

Joseph Martinez, who initially identified himself as Rodolfo Martinez, 26, was arrested shortly after the killings and charged with robbery and murder.

Police are hoping that anyone who knows of Machado's whereabouts will call homicide investigators at 229-3521 or Secret Witness at 385-5555.
