Better deal for convention center

The latest proposal by architect Jacques Errecart calls for a 26,000 addition that could be built for about $3.55 million. His initial plans, which intentionally included all possible amenities, would have cost $7.5 million.

Errecart said the new proposal would be considerably stripped down, but still would be large enough to accommodate hockey or basketball games, but would be more geared toward performances and exhibits, the Elko Daily Free Press reported.

The facility, with a seating capacity of 2,600, "eliminates most of the real, real nice amenities," Errecart said. It also does without an acoustical ceiling, an option convention board member Steve Dondero said should be considered even though it would add to the final cost.
