TECHNOLOGY GRANTS -- School districts in all 50 states will receive $423 million this year in federal funds to buy computers, train teachers how to use them and link schools to the Internet. Nevada will receive $2.1 million. The grants mark the second year of a five-year, $2 billion program called the Technology Challenge Literacy Fund aimed at connecting every classroom to the information superhighway by 2000. So far, 65 percent of schools are connected. Vice President Gore announced the grants Wednesday at the White House. The allocations for fiscal 1998 range from $46.5 million for California and $37.8 million for New York to $2.1 million each for smaller states. Last year, $200 million was distributed.
