EPA official challenges Clark County commissioner

Thu, Mar 6, 1997 (11:59 a.m.)

The challenge comes from Mary Nichols, the EPA's associate administrator for air and radiation.

Commissioner Yvonne Atkinson Gates claimed earlier this week that the agency has no scientific data to support more stringent air quality standards, which are expected to be put in place this summer.

The county is already out of compliance with certain EPA standards and faces possible stiff penalties.
