Reno-bound plane makes emergency landing, no one hurt

Fri, Mar 14, 1997 (11:59 a.m.)

The flight to Reno, Nev., was carrying 111 passengers and had taken off just before 7 a.m., when airport crews in a tower heard a "popping" sound and saw flames coming from one engine, Metro spokesman Mike Conway said.

"By the time it turned around and came back, the fire was out," Conway said. He said the plane taxied to a gate, and the passenger and crew left safely.

There was no immediate word on what caused the fire.

Passengers were put on other flights.
