Concert scheduled in Henderson plaza

The Las Vegas Brass Quintet will perform at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Civic Center Plaza Amphitheater, 200 Water St.

The free performance is part of the Henderson Parks and Recreation Department's "Twilight In the Plaza" summer concert series. Call 565-2367.

Suicide Prevention plans training

The Suicide Prevention Center is planning training sessions for volunteers 6-9 p.m. three evenings a week for two weeks starting Monday.

Requirements include emotional stability, job responsibility and the ability to serve a minimum of six hours per week.

Call 731-2990 and ask for a volunteer coordinator to schedule an interview or for more information. A $2,000 donation has been made by the Vegas Masonic Lodge, and the organization is seeking donations from other philanthropic groups as well.

Children invited to workshop on Sunday

A Children's Tortoise Workshop will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Desert Demonstration Gardens, 3701 W. Alta Drive. There will be live desert tortoises to observe, and an art project involving tortoises and water conservation. Children younger than 6 must be accompanied by an adult. Call 258-3205.

Spaces open in mountain camp

Spaces are still available in the one-week resident arts camp for youth ages 8-12, which runs Sunday through July 17.

The camp offers an enriched curriculum of music, video, movement, visual arts and theater in a cool outdoor mountain setting.

Therapy certification class set at hospice

K-9 Therapists of Las Vegas is sponsoring a pet therapy certification class at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Nathan Adelson Hospice, 4141 S. Swenson St.

Participants must bring to class a copy of the pet's current shot records, proof of physical exams and license. Call Heather Kantor at 796-3162.

Dodgers, Knott's junkets scheduled

A Los Angeles Dodgers baseball trip is scheduled for Saturday at the Chuck Minker Sports Complex, 275 N. Mojave Road.

Cost is $37 and includes round-trip charter bus and one month aerobic membership. Call 229-6563.

Also, a Knott's Berry Farm Trip is scheduled from 4 a.m. Saturday to 4 a.m. Sunday. Meet at the Charleston Heights Community School, 300 S. Torrey Pines. Call 878-8644, or the Molasky Community School, 7801 W. Gilmore. Call 229-5345.

Cost is $65 which include ticket to park and transportation.

The Clark County Fire Department is helping the Salvation Army the week of July 9-16. All county fire stations are accepting canned and dry food donations through the week. Call 255-2182 for more information.
