Man wedged in chimney says he fell in

Mon, Mar 1, 1999 (2:54 a.m.)

Firefighters needed 2 1/2 hours to extricate the Arizona iron worker from the chimney of a building across from the Elko County Courthouse that houses a wedding chapel and an engineering office.

Police got a call before daybreak Sunday that somebody was yelling for help.

Fire crews found Bischoff - or at least his head and right arm - sticking out of the bottom of the chimney.

They had to go through sheet rock, then bricks to get to the rest of him. Police Chief Clair Morris said Bischoff, 21, spent most of the time swearing at the rescuers. Officers add that the smell of alcohol was quite strong.

And despite his contention that he just happened to fall into the chimney, police booked him for investigation of burglary.
