The Senate Finance Committee recommended the extension Tuesday. It won't cost the state any new money because the $75,000 already has been allocated.
Of the $75,000, $13,500 is to pay for expenses and salaries of members of the state's commission for the preservation of wild horses, while $61,500 is to cover a staff biologist to help the commission.
The money is to be spent on a study to determine whether establishing a private foundation to promote wild horse and burro adoptions is feasible. AB684, which makes the change, gives the division until June 2000 to spend the money.
