After being told that each false alarm costs taxpayers about $95, the City Council passed a law that charges people for more than two false alarms a year.
Police have to respond to the fire alarms and there were more than 11,300 of them last year. Ninety-eight percent were false.
As of Monday any alarms beyond two in a single year will result in a charge of $94.66.
After six false alarms in a 12-month period, police will quit responding.
