Indicted Tuesday for killing casino guard Wilbur Dedeaux, 70, of Baton Rouge were Delton Singleton, 26, of Baker; Willie Pier, 25, and Richard McKneely, 18, both of Baton Rouge.

McKneely was 16 at the time Dedeaux was killed, but was indicted for first-degree murder and will be tried as an adult, said Billy Clark, a district attorney's spokesman.

"The next step is to bring them to trial and see that they are convicted. It's obvious we have the right people," said Gonzales Police Chief Bill Landry, whose department arrested them.

A fourth man, Frank "Mankey" Johnson, 19, of Baton Rouge, was arrested with the three others and remains in custody, but was not indicted, Landry said.

Dedeaux was shot twice, once with the assailant's gun and again with the gun which was taken from him, Landry said.

The guard was killed when three men wearing bandannas burst into the casino on the night of March 17, 1998, and shot Dedeaux. They fled without taking any money after they were unable to get into the locked cashier's office.

The killers raced away from the casino in a van and headed down Interstate 10 toward Baton Rouge. They abandoned the van with the motor running on the side of the interstate, jumped into a pickup and discarded the clothes they wore during the robbery, Landry said.
