An overview of TPC at Summerlin, the host course of the Las Vegas Senior Classic, with comments by TPC course player consultant Fuzzy Zoeller:
No. 1: 415-yard Par 4
The opening hole plays straight away from a slightly elevated tee. A wash extends back along the left side of the second shot setting up the green. Spectator areas run down the right side between holes 1 and 9.
"Drive left to right on 1 and you should be OK. This is a fast-play hole."
No. 2: 440-yard Par 4
A long, downhill dogleg right along an existing wash. Watch the tee shot in relation to the wash carry -- look for a long shot close to the wash.
"Just make sure you stay in the fairway and you'll stay out of the wash."
No. 3: 505-yard Par 5
A short, reachable par-5, with a double fairway approach. The green is perched above an existing wash, giving three alternatives to the second shot. This hole plays slightly uphill and into the prevailing wind, so it is not an automatic reach in two. The large green allows risk takers on shots one and two an easier shot to the green.
"You need to choose well your direction on all your shot options here.
No. 4: 445-yard Par 5
Another long par 4 slightly downhill, playing right to left into the green. A new wash extends up the left side and sets up the green.
"It's not only a challenging hole to play but a pretty one, too."
No. 5: 288-yard Par 3
A downhill medium length hole which plays across the major, live wash to a green that sits slightly left to right.
"This one really takes advantage of the desert landscape."
No. 6: 402-yard Par 4
This hole plays slightly right to left from the tee up to a wash just below existing rock faces creating a wider landing area.
"This is the signature hole on the front nine."
No. 7: 370-yard Par 4
A sharp dogleg left, medium length hole to a slightly uphill green off to the right.
"You've got some fun bunkers just before the green to make it fun and challenging."
No. 8: 233-yard Par 3
A long, downhill par-3, playing strongly left to right along an existing wash. Large mounding to the left behind the green will create an excellent spectator hub for the 8th and 3rd greens and 2nd and 9th tee shots.
"This hole is a lot of golf."
No. 9: 563-yard Par 5
Working slightly uphill and slightly left to right, the long shot leads to the green which is protected by a new wash. Most often a 3-shot hole, it plays across wind.
"We want the player to go for it here and make it exciting.
Front Nine -- Par 36
No. 10: 408-yard Par 4
This hole is slightly downhill and plays left to right.
"No. 10 on your scorecard, No. 1 in your heart."
No. 11: 447-yard Par 4
A slightly right to left hole, the second shot is to a gently sloped green that is set into a spectator hub.
"This hole shows how we designed the course to have a nice visual feel."
No. 12: 397-yard Par 4
This downhill, straight hole has a new wash guarding the left side of the landing area and a pond guarding the right side of the green.
"Just another beautiful hole with the pond and plenty of bunkers."
No. 13: 586-yard Par 5
This 3-shot par-5 plays slightly uphill on the tee shot and then level to the green. The green sits on a small promontory and is surrounded by wash in front, on the left and behind.
"You've got to think here. Your second shot is probably the most important."
No. 14: 160-yard Par 3
The shortest par-3 plays right to left to a green protected by an extension of an existing wash.
"This green has a lot of fun pin placements so be careful of where you're putting it on."
No. 15: 310-yard Par 4
Straight away, this hole can be reached with a great tee shot or about 290 yards. However, the green is perched well above a deep wash which also runs past the green to the right, so the penalty for a missed shot is severe. A long narrow green is receptive to a tee shot but is a shallow target to a wedge approach.
"You can take out the driver and gamble or you can stay safely to the right and take more shots."
No. 16: 532-yard Par 5
This slightly uphill hole is another gamble opportunity playing left to right. The green is well guarded by water on the front right. Spectators can sit in a large bowl behind 16 and also watch 17.
"This is where people's egos are going to come into play on whether they can make the shot over the water."
No. 17: 198-yard Par 3
A downhill par-3 with water guarding the left side of the green.
"You don't want to overpower this one, or you're in trouble."
No. 18: 450-yard Par 4
A long uphill finishing hole with a created creek in the existing wash on the left side and a small pond guarding the left front of the green. THe fairway is depressed eight to 10 feet to create corporate hospitality along the right side of the fairway.
"If you go left anywhere on this, you're dead."
