Strip hotel seeks financing to avoid auction

The bankrupt Vacation Village hotel-casino on the south end of the Las Vegas Strip said today it hopes to avoid a planned auction of the property on Nov. 20.

Eric Nelson Auctioneering Inc. said it was appointed Friday by the U.S. Bankruptcy Court to auction the 315-room property on Nov. 20. Vacation Village's gaming equipment will be sold separately.

But Philip Abramowitz, Vacation Village's attorney, said: "We have until five days before Nov. 20 to refinance it. We're still working with other lenders and we expect to have it refinanced before that date."
