MORGAN CITY, La. -- A group opposed to putting a riverboat casino in the Morgan City area collected more than 60 pages of signatures from other residents opposed to having a gambling hall near their homes.

Louisiana Horizons LLC, in a partnership with Isle of Capri, is one of three groups that has applied for Louisiana's 15th and final riverboat gambling license.

The petition was assembled by a group known as Concerned Citizens of Morgan City and Surrounding Communities. Group organizers said they collected 816 signatures.

The petitions were given to the City Council, which meets Tuesday.

Shortly after the petitions were handed over to the city, city attorney Robert Duffy said that a resolution concerning a possible Morgan City site had been removed from the council's agenda. Duffy cited Louisiana Horizons' decision to place the casino in another location.

Two other sites are under consideration in nearby Amelia that have the support of the St. Mary Parish Council.
