Four Las Vegas high school seniors were awarded with Merit Scholarships.

Nathan Hamilton of the Las Vegas Academy of International Studies and Performing Arts received an Arizona State University Merit Scholarship. Daniel McConnell of Trinity High School received a University of Southern California Merit Scholarship. Julian Phillips of Clark High School received an Arizona State University Merit Scholarship. Seoyoung Kim of the Advanced Technologies Academy received a University of Oklahoma Merit Scholarship.

These four students were among 4,300 students awarded with the college-sponsored Merit Scholarships. Those students were taken from a pool of approximately 15,000 finalists.

To become a finalist the students had to do well on their 1999 PSAT, have a good academic record, be endorsed and recommended by their high school, do well on a second test and provide an essay that describes their accomplishments and goals.

More than 200 colleges and universities financed the National Merit Scholarship Program this year.
