After suffering another heartbreaking road loss here to the Nashville Sounds, 7-4, on Wednesday night, the Las Vegas 51s get a day off today to regroup before playing the final three games of the series with the Sounds.
Seems a country music celebrity softball tournament featuring Vince Gill gets priority today at Herschel Greer Stadium. Considering the way the 51s are playing on the road this season -- Rick Sofield's squad is now a dreadful 8-23 away from Cashman Field -- Gill's squad of crooners would be probably no worse than even money to whip Las Vegas.
The 51s dropped to 1-4 on their Tennessee road trip with Wednesday night's defeat.
It looked like Las Vegas might pull out a win when backup catcher John Pachot hit his first triple-A homer in the eighth inning to break a 3-3 tie.
But Nashville (30-34) rallied for four runs in the bottom half of the inning with center fielder Tike Redman's three-run triple off 51s closer Kris Foster the big blow.
Third baseman Phil Hiatt had three hits for Las Vegas.
The series resumes Friday with left-hander Eddie Priest (2-4, 3.47) scheduled to start for Las Vegas.
