Traffic count improves

The number of passengers using McCarran International Airport in October was down 16.3 percent from the same month in the previous year, an improvement from September, the airport said Wednesday.

Some 2.8 million people arrived at and departed from McCarran in October, compared with 3.3 million a year earlier. In September, passenger counts were down 28.3 percent from the previous year to 2.1 million people.

The downturn, resulting from diminished capacity and the public's unwillingness to fly following the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, put McCarran's year-to-date total in negative territory for 2001.

In the first 10 months of 2001, 30.1 million passengers used McCarran, a 2.2 percent decrease from the 30.8 million who used the airport in the first 10 months of 2000.
