Closing arguments set

Wed, Jun 5, 2002 (9:44 a.m.)

HOUSTON -- Attorneys have eight hours to make their last arguments on Arthur Andersen LLP's guilt or innocence before jurors begin deliberating the firm's fate.

Defense attorneys wrapped up their case Tuesday. They and prosecutors will have up to four hours each to present closing arguments today.

Andersen is accused of persuading or trying to persuade employees to shred documents and delete computer records related to Enron Corp. audits in October and November to thwart a Securities and Exchange Commission probe into the energy company's accounting.

Andersen claims the shredding was routine adherence to its document retention policy.
