Industrial production gains

WASHINGTON -- Industrial production -- hard hit by last year's recession -- continued to gain ground, edging up by 0.2 percent in May, the fifth straight monthly advance.

The Federal Reserve's report released today suggested that the comeback in the manfacturing sector is progressing solidly, just not at a sizzling pace.

The 0.2 percent advance in output at the nation's factories, mines and utilities, last month was a bit weaker than than the 0.3 percent gain some analysts were forecasting.
