Letter: U.S. must attack to save world

Wed, Oct 9, 2002 (9:07 a.m.)

I am responding to Associated Press reporter Jim Abrams' Sept. 23 article "Democrats Seek Iraq Alternatives": In the article, Abrams commented on how the Democratic Party would rather come up with alternatives than simply resolving to go to war with Iraq. Give me a break!

The Democratic Party is being too cautious, and we must get rid of this problem before it becomes more severe. If we don't take action, it could allow Iraq to assemble and attack us first. We should just rid ourselves of the problem now, and not worry about it escalating to a higher level of terrorism.

Our country has suffered enough in the past year and it shouldn't continue. America should live up to its expectations of being a powerful country and protect its citizens. If the U.N. doesn't converge with the proposal, it could be setting itself up for an attack, too. If Iraq was overrun and tamed, then we wouldn't have to worry about another attack.

We would help the world with this potential threat by eliminating it now. If we delay and let it go, it could turn into another situation that resulted in the Sept. 11 attacks. We must take action and protect the world.
