Election 2002: Assembly District 10

Thu, Oct 17, 2002 (11:11 a.m.)

A pair of Democrats will square off in the general election: Incumbent David Goldwater, who was first elected to the Legislature in 1994, faces a challenge from Daniel Cook.

The district straddles Interstate 15 south of Sahara Avenue. Because there were no challengers from other parties, both went on to the general election. This is the only Southern Nevada Assembly race where that situation occurred.

Goldwater, 32, is a native Las Vegan and an investment consultant.

A four-term assemblyman, he was chairman of the Taxation Committee in 2001. He supports stronger education and Medicaid funding to address the needs of the disadvantaged young, working people and seniors.

Cook, 50, a head custodian for the Clark County School District, is running on a platform of concerns for issues facing senior citizens and proper community planning to better address growth and development.

The district has more than 16,300 registered voters, more than 7,200 Democrats and nearly 6,000 Republicans.
