The county recorder oversees all public records such as property deeds, maps, mining claims and marriage certificates.
The race has four candidates -- Republican Frances "Fran" Deane, Democrat Anita Springs, Green candidate Brandi J. Harrington and Independent American Gregory G. Hansen.
Deane, a mortgage banker, said her real estate experience will help her handle the thousands of property deeds and titles that come through the recorder's office.
Springs, a free-lance paralegal, says her goals include restoring the "personal touch" and reducing the wait.
Harrington, a human resources assistant, emphasizes improving efficiency and customer service if elected.
Hansen, a private attorney, said he would manage the office better, including cutting down on a backlog in title, license and lien applications.
