Harrah's Entertainment Inc. has been selected by Dow Jones & Co., the company that licenses the Dow Jones stock indexes, as a component of the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index.

The index is a compilation of 300 companies worldwide selected for their ability to create long-term, sustainable shareholder value.

This marks the second year in a row that the Las Vegas-based casino company has been named to the index.

Dow Jones considers such factors as corporate governance, clear financial reporting, financial strength and social factors such as diversity, customer relationships, labor practices and environmental management when choosing stocks for the index.

"People realize that sustainability trends have an important impact on the companies they invest in," said John Prestbo, editor of the Dow Jones Indexes. "Moreover, recent corporate scandals have emphasized the need for greater transparency and accountability."
