CARSON CITY -- Fines start increasing to $100 daily today for the seven political candidates in Clark County, including Assembly Speaker Pro Tem Wendell Williams, who have failed to submit their campaign contribution and expense reports that were due in August.
The Secretary of State's Office said Wednesday these seven and 22 candidates from other counties already owe $1,975 and that the penalty keeps getting bigger until it reaches $5,000.
Twelve other Clark County candidates, including District Judge John McGroarty, submitted their campaign reports late and are being assessed fines.
McGroarty will be fined $1,075 and Assemblywoman Vonne Chowning, D-North Las Vegas, must pay $525 for being 14 days late.
Those whose penalty is building at $100 a day are Ann Adam, a candidate for Clark County Public Administration; Darryl Glover a candidate for Assembly District 7; David Griego, a candidate for Assembly District 5; and Lloyd Hargis in Assembly District 37.
Also failing to file from Clark County were Barry Keller who ran for Las Vegas Constable; Esther Quisenberry for the Clark County Commission in Seat F; and Gary Scacco for the Overton Power District.
The secretary of state's office said those who filed one day late and are being penalized $25 are Assemblyman Morse Arberry; Steve Bergstrom for North Las Vegas constable; Jose Castillo for Clark County sheriff; Jeff Knight for university regent; Bradley Smith, a candidate in Assembly District 19; and Dick Geyer, a candidate for governor.
Others in Clark County who were fined include James Blockey in Assembly District 5 for $50; Richard Gardner in Assembly District 14 for $75; challenger David Parks in Assembly District 41 for $175; Daniel Cook, Assembly District 10 for $325; and Anita Springs for Clark County recorder for $225.
